External Edge Strips
Timber Edge Strips (T.E.S) are an optional extra and are not standard on our Flush Panel range of doors. The image below shows the right edge of door with an external edge strip, and the left without.
T.E.S are usually a minimum of 12mm in thickness, increased to 15mm on meeting stiles of double doors to accommodate the rebate.
They can be added to 2 edges of door (stiles) or all edges.
APPLICATIONS
T.E.S are usually specified where the face material of the door is plywood, timber veneer or laminate. The additional solid timber on the edges of the door protects the face material from being damaged through normal use of the door.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Adding T.E.S to a door creates a very visible surface joint. This cannot be considered a defect where the gap is 0.5mm or less at time of supply.
These joints are usually accentuated after the application of surface finishes or exposure to environmental factors such as moisture or temperature. Ensure flexible finishes are used to minimise the risk of the finish cracking.
